Did the thermostat setback and basic weatherstripping and saw maybe a 7–8% drop in my bill — helpful but not the 20% I was hoping for. Had a home energy auditor come out and he found my crawl space was basically uninsulated and wide open to outside air. Getting that fixed this spring. I think the DIY stuff is worth doing first but for an older house like mine (1962 rancher), there's usually something bigger hiding underneath that you won't find without the blower door test.
