The right fix depends on which cause you're actually dealing with
Not all tripping breakers are the same problem — the correct action for an overloaded kitchen circuit is completely different from the correct action for a short circuit, and conflating them is how people either waste money calling electricians for nothing, or put their homes at risk by doing nothing.
What people try first — and why it backfires
Most of the bad advice around tripping breakers comes from a place of understandable frustration — you just want the lights back on. But these common responses either fail to solve the problem or actively make it worse.

Replacing a breaker with a higher-amperage one — This is the single most dangerous thing you can do: a 15-amp circuit's wiring is only rated to safely carry 15 amps, and installing a 20-amp breaker doesn't upgrade the wire — it just removes the protection that was stopping the wire from overheating and potentially causing a fire.

Repeatedly resetting the breaker without diagnosing the cause — A breaker tripping is not a malfunction — it is the breaker doing exactly what it was designed to do. Breaker for my garage workshop kept tripping even with nothing plugged in. Followed the advice here and called an electrician instead of messing with it. Turned out the insulation on a wire behind the drywall had worn through and was arcing. Electrician said if I'd kept resetting it I could easily have had a fire inside the wall. Really glad I didn't try to DIY this one.

The load-redistribution fix worked short-term for my kitchen circuit, but it kept creeping back — we'd forget and run the microwave and coffee maker together and it would trip again. Eventually had an electrician add a second dedicated 20-amp circuit for the microwave. That was the real permanent fix. The diagnosis advice here was exactly right; I just needed to follow it all the way through instead of stopping at the band-aid.
