Restored the expansion gap and the main hump went away, but I still have one plank near the hallway transition that sits a tiny bit high. I think the subfloor itself has a slight dip there that's causing the click joint to not fully seat. The floor is livable and not getting worse, so I've decided to leave it for now rather than rip up more planks. Worth noting: fixing the gap definitely helped — it just didn't solve every inch of the problem.
