Spent two summers thinking my back zone had a pipe issue because there was always a dead strip along the fence line. Finally ran it while I stood there watching and noticed one rotor head was just barely popping up — the grass had grown right around the base and was holding it down. Trimmed back about two inches of sod from around the head, and the whole pattern sorted itself out immediately. Felt a little silly but I'll take it.

My front lawn had a classic dry triangle in one corner that I'd been hand-watering for ages. Did the catch-cup test with tuna cans like this page suggests and it was immediately obvious — the can in the far corner had about a third the water of every other can. Turned on the zone, found a spray head with a clogged filter screen, pulled the nozzle, rinsed it under the hose for about 30 seconds, reinstalled. Problem gone. Total repair time maybe 15 minutes including setup. I genuinely did not know you could clean those.

Fixed three heads that were clearly off — one tilted, one clogged, one spraying into the fence — and the coverage improved noticeably but I still had one stubbornly dry zone along the side yard. Ended up calling an irrigation company for that one and they found the zone had seven heads on it where the design spec called for five. Previous owner had extended the zone when they added a garden bed and didn't account for the pressure drop. They split it into two zones and now everything's even. The DIY stuff was definitely worth doing first though — saved me from a bigger service call.
