  • Assuming you need a new door — Unless the door is physically warped beyond about ¼ inch (you can check with a long straight edge), virtually every closing problem is a frame or hinge issue, not a door issue. New doors are expensive; the fix is almost always in the hardware or the frame.

    The latch on our back door wasn't catching — you had to lift the handle while pushing for it to engage. I rubbed a pencil on the latch bolt and could see it was hitting the strike plate about 4mm too high. Loosened the strike plate, moved it up, re-drove the screws. Five minutes, no new parts.
