My bathroom had no exhaust fan — just a window — and in winter I almost never opened it. Classic setup for mold. I cleaned everything with the bleach mix and had an electrician install a timer-controlled exhaust fan for about $180 all in. The difference in humidity was immediate, and I haven't seen mold return in four months. I wish I'd fixed the fan first instead of just cleaning repeatedly for two years.

Cleaned the visible mold off the ceiling corner with bleach and it looked great for about three weeks. Then it came back in the same spot. Called a plumber and turns out there was a very slow drip from the upstairs bathroom drain that had been wicking into the drywall. The drywall had to come out — two sections of it — and that's when we found out the mold had been in there for who knows how long. The DIY clean bought me time but didn't solve it. If yours keeps coming back, get someone to check for hidden leaks before you spend more time cleaning.
