Ours turned out to be the drain basket — the putty had cracked and you could only see the leak when a full basin of water drained at once, which is why we kept missing it with just the faucet running. The paper towel method correctly identified my P-trap as the source. I replaced the whole trap assembly and the visible leak stopped. But a week later I was getting a tiny amount of moisture again — turned out the garbage disposal flange was also weeping slightly, which the first test hadn't caught because the disposal wasn't running during the test. Once I ran the disposal during the second diagnostic pass, it showed up immediately. Fixed with a quarter-turn tighten on the mounting ring. Point being: if you have a disposal, make sure you run it during the test, not just the faucet.
