The key thing I learned: you have to use way more product than feels right. I was spraying it on like a normal cleaner and wondering why it wasn't working. Once I actually poured it on — enough to soak through — and left it for 45 minutes, the difference was night and day. My dog had been hitting the same corner for apparently a year and I'd just been masking it. Two treatments and it's gone. The UV light step was also a revelation, honestly a bit horrifying.

Enzyme cleaner helped a lot — maybe 80% improvement — but there's still a faint smell in hot weather. Based on the guidance here I think the padding is compromised under one spot where my cat had been going repeatedly for a long time before I caught it. I'm getting a quote for padding replacement in that area. I don't regret trying the enzyme approach first; it was worth attempting before spending on a pro, and it solved everything except that one chronic spot.
